Training Programs

Gun Dog Training

Upland and waterfowl gun dog development — from first birds to finished hunting companion — built on 30 years of East Texas experience.

The Program

Built for the Hunt,
Ready for the Field

A great gun dog isn't born — it's made. At Zion Kennels, gun dog training starts with building a confident, bird-crazy dog and layers in the control and steadiness that makes them a true hunting partner.

Eddie works with both upland and waterfowl dogs, tailoring each program to the dog's breed, natural ability, and the type of hunting you do. Whether you're after pheasant in the uplands or ducks on the water, we develop dogs that perform when it counts.

All training is done in person at our Ladonia, TX facility, with access to birds, water, and varied terrain that mirrors real hunting conditions.

How It Works

Training Phases

01

Introduction & Socialization

Exposing young dogs to birds, cover, water, and gunfire in a positive, confidence-building environment. A strong foundation here shapes everything that follows.

02

Obedience & Control

Heel, sit, stay, and recall — the control commands that keep a gun dog safe and effective in the field, on and off leash.

03

Bird Work & Hunting Skills

Developing natural hunting instincts with structured bird work — quartering, flushing, pointing, and steadiness to wing and shot.

04

Finished Hunting Companion

Polishing the complete package — a steady, reliable gun dog that performs in real hunting conditions, season after season.

Our Philosophy

Happy Dogs Hunt Better

The best gun dogs aren't just obedient — they're enthusiastic. Eddie's training philosophy puts the dog's confidence and love of the hunt first. Control and steadiness are built on top of a dog that genuinely wants to work.

That's why dogs trained at Zion Kennels don't just perform in training — they perform in the field, in real conditions, season after season.

"I think this photo shows just how much Eddie helps guide these dogs he trains to do the one thing they absolutely love to do."
